High Protein Hot Chocolate

Comforting and nourishing to the body, mind, and soul, this high protein hot chocolate is full of superfoods and antioxidants while light on the belly.

I consider hot chocolate one of the most comforting treats you can have, so I’ve been determined to find a way to make it more energizing, and truly nourishing.
Because protein is such a good blood sugar stabilizer, which means your hormones will be stabilized too, I’ve been experimenting using hemp seeds.
Hemp seeds are full of healthy Omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein, and when blended with water make a creamy, milk-like drink.

3T hemp seeds – hulled = 10 g protein

1 T cocoa powder – unsweetened – I use the non-alkali ’cause I like it bitter 🙂

1 tsp coconut oil

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp chili flakes

Optional: 1 tsp lecithin granules – these keep the ingredients from separating, and it’s a healthy food as well

To sweeten: 1 T maple syrup, or 3 dates, or stevia to taste

Put everything in a blender, add 12 oz hot water, and blend until smooth.

Attention! When blending hot liquids place a towel over the blender and pulse a few times to let the steam escape and prevent the top from blowing off.
